PEOPLE NEEDED!!!

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP FOR A FEW

HOURS A WEEK, A MONTH, EVERY FEW MONTHS OR ONCE A YEAR PLEASE CALL LEE ANN AT:

Merrill Historical Society (715-536-5652)

  • PUBLICITY Oversee Flyers; Get Press Releases to News Media (WJMT; Courier; Foto News); Work with others to keep HS Name in the News
  • NEWSLETTER EDITOR Oversee and work with LeeAnn on the publication of our Newsletter possibly a shortmonthly one-sheet publication; proofreading & gathering of information.
  • GRANTS Work ONLINE and through Publications to FIND GRANTS available to HS for Programming; Capital Building; Exhibits
    etc. Advise of deadlines to apply and give as much info as possible about the grantors.  
    • I like to WRITE Grants
  • OFFICE HELP/VOLUNTEERS Take direction from LeeAnn and/or Bev, Pat & Bea to help with various needed office tasks: Counting and keep up Inventory of Items; Cleaning the bathrooms & dusting; Filing; General typing, proofreading; Helping to get out Mailings/Newsletter
    etc
  • RESEARCH One aspect is: Many requests for information come into the Society search our archives and documents for information/get training from Bev on how we do this; Second aspect is: Do research for our own projects and exhibits
    prepare information to help the public interpret our documents and exhibits.
  • PREPARE EXHIBITS Work as a group to develop, design & execute exhibits for the Historical Society both permanent and temporary
    get ideas; find appropriate space; find artifacts and articles on your theme; prepare and document the exhibit for docents.
  • DOCENTS (Exhibit Guides) Welcome visitors to our buildings, be prepared to discuss the Society and exhibits that may be on display, work on a rotating schedule
    possibly a few hours each month or every other month. Help with school groups and programs.
  • ACCESSIONING We have many artifacts donated to the Society that must be prepared, cataloged and filed or stored properly
    this involves typing on the computer; knowledge of Merrill and/or antiques is very helpful; you will learn the terms & categories used by our HS artifacts can be items, photographs, newspaper articles, etc. Training will be necessary to get started.
  • EVENT WORKERS Work with the Event Chairperson to help develop, coordinate, prepare for and staff events and programs put on by the Historical Society. These general events include: Sweet Escapes; Ice Cream Social; a Christmas Program; small concerts and events during the year. Involves some committee meetings to put together events.
  • SPECIAL EVENTS! - These are larger events requiring a great deal of preparation, over and above the normal hospitality, etc of a general event.
